Welcoming a new baby is a whirlwind of excitement and love, and capturing those first precious moments is something every parent cherishes. As an experienced NWA photographer, I often get asked, “When is the best time to schedule newborn photos?” Here’s everything you need to know about planning for these once-in-a-lifetime memories.

When to Book Your Newborn Session
I recommend booking your newborn session during the beginning of your third trimester. This timing ensures you have a spot reserved on my calendar, as I only take a limited number of newborns each month. Babies love to surprise us with their arrival dates, so I keep my schedule flexible to accommodate these delightful curveballs.
Once your baby is born, either mom or dad can text me, and we’ll work together to find the perfect time for your session. I aim to photograph newborns between 6-10 days new, as this window allows for those dreamy, curled-up poses while babies are still sleepy and content.
Flexibility for Newborn Sessions
Life with a newborn can be unpredictable, and sometimes circumstances mean a session between days 6-10 isn’t possible. That’s perfectly okay! The newborn phase extends through the first three months, and every part of this phase is worth celebrating. Whether we capture your baby at two weeks or two months, the photos will still reflect the beauty of this fleeting stage.

Why the 6-10 Day Window?
The first 6-10 days of life are a sweet spot for newborn photography because:
- Babies are generally sleepier, which allows us to capture those peaceful, curled-up poses.
- They’re still adjusting to the outside world, making them more flexible for positioning.
However, your comfort is just as important. If you need more time to recover or settle into life with your little one, we’ll adjust the timing to suit your needs.
An NWA Photographer’s Personalized Approach
As an NWA photographer, I specialize in making your newborn session as stress-free as possible. I create a relaxed environment where your baby’s needs come first—whether they need extra feeding breaks or snuggles. This baby-led approach ensures that we capture genuine, heartfelt moments that you’ll treasure forever.
